Over the summer we are going to post a few snaps from our favourite pubs, restaurants and shops on the island. Today's chosen pub is The Sun at Hulverstone in West Wight, not far from the beaches at Brook and the Isle of Wight Pearl.
The Sun is a cute 600 year old traditional thatched pub in the tiny beautiful village of Hulverstone, in West Wight, not far from the beaches at Brook and the Isle of Wight Pearl. It’s a great stop off point for walkers, cyclists and those heading back from the beaches.
We love coming here in the Winter for a bowl of steaming soup when the fires are roaring - it is THE perfect winter pub. There are quite a few specials nights running through the winter and live music.
It's also a beautiful place to sit outside in the summer in the large garden that overlooks Compton Bay and Tennyson Down. We often pop in for a quick cold drink and snack on the way back from a hot walk up Brook Down. On a sunny summer afternoon, it gets very busy and on some days, very hot!
There’s a good pub menu running all day with a restaurant style specials board. They use local ingredients and offer gluten-free and vegetarian options. You can eat in the traditional pub side, in the spacious restaurant overlooking the English Channel or on the picnic tables in the garden.
Staff are very friendly and welcoming, and make a special fuss of any four legged furry friends that visit.
